Rail Plus is giving every travel consultant in Australia the opportunity to take part in its Global Rail Expert program, with this year’s top graduate set to win a journey to Europe, flying Qatar Airways.

In the past Rail Plus has strictly limited the number of travel agents admitted into its annual Global Rail Expert program, but in 2016 any consultant with a desire to learn can register and then complete the course’s 10 training modules.

This year’s modules were launched on 1 February, with agents having a seven-week period in which to complete the course. As in previous years, the modules cover a broad range of rail topics, including Eurail, European high-speed rail networks, the Swiss Travel System, Great Train Journeys and the latest products and services from VIA Rail, Rocky Mountaineer and Amtrak. In addition, a special module has been incorporated on Qatar Airways.

The highest-performing graduate – judged by number of questions answered correctly and overall time taken to complete the course – will win a Eurail Pass and a return ticket on Qatar Airways to Europe. The second and third placed graduates will be rewarded with Coles Group and Myer gift cards valued at $750 and $250 respectively.

Chief executive James Dunne said Rail Plus’ decision to open the 2016 Global Rail Expert program to all comers would benefit the entire retail travel industry.

“Over the past few years the program’s renown has grown enormously, helped in no small part by the success enjoyed by past graduates,” said Dunne.

“As a result we have seen extraordinary numbers of agents asking to take part.”
